  • Back to writing After spending the last four months rehearsing, and performing in Roleystone Theatre's production of Oklahoma, it's time to get back to spending serious time on writing, or initially - editing. Decided last year that I needed to re-edit my first novel before embarking on the sequel. No changes to the story, just eliminating unnecessary bloat, and characters that don't really add anything. Almost done, and looking forward to meeting up with my friends in their new chapters of adventure.

  • "Short-term" worker retiring after 43 years of faithful service When he took his first job in the food industry in 1973, it was supposed to be a short-term position. He knew they were looking for someone with better qualifications, but hadn't been able to find anyone. When his expected replacement failed to materialise even after several years, he assumed the boss was happy, and so he just kept on working. The position was good, and he was happy. His spot in the food-prep area had a bit of a view through the main door, and the work pressure was much less than the guys slaving in the dark back corners. He had a few scares over the years with injuries that could easily have rendered him ...

  • Will the latest instalment of Star Wars - The Force Awakens - damage the Star Wars core fan base? Serious SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't seen the movie, don't read this. Also, SPOILER ALERT in regards to the Expanded Universe (EU) books.     Do you want to read on? Are you sure you want to read the spoilers? OK, since you are still reading, here’s my opinion: I think this latest movie will damage the Star Wars fan base.  First, let me say that as a stand-alone movie I quite like The Force Awakens. It has all the right mix of likeable characters, adrenaline action, dog fights and a big bang at the end. Most of the new core characters are introduced while under fire, and it doesn't take long to be on the edge ...
